He joined the College a' volunteer infantry company," a,b()u.t 1906, and remained with it when it became a divisional signal company under- the territorial system. Major Stillwell was with the large contingent which the company provided tor the Main Body and was' with the Signal Corps until the Armistice, receiving Ids commission at GallipolL 'He wiw awarded the Military Cross after thei Battle of Messines. When he returned to Xew Zealand he took command of his old company, which was converted intoa howitzer battery about 1921.
