FORMER PRESIDENT.
FRENCH VETERAN PASSES
PARIS, December 22.
The death is announced of M. Emile Loubet, formerly President of France, aged 91.
The late Emile Loubet was elected to the Senate in ISSS. He was soon made leader of the extreme Left, and in ISB7 joined the Tirard Cabinet as Minister or Labour. In 1596 he was elected President of the Senate, and in IS9O President of the Republic. His Presidency was notable for the strengthening of the FrancoEussian Entente and for the Dreyfus case. His most important work was the inception of the entente cordiale. In support of his foreign policy, he paid visits to England and Russia. At the end of his seven years' term he declined re-election and retired from politics at the end of 190.5. M. Loubet spent the evening of his days on his estate in his native department of the Drome, but at his death he was living with a son in the town of Montelimar.
