RUGBY ENTHUSIAST.
DEATH OF DR. HUNTER. OTAGO REPRESENTATIVE PLAYER. (By Telegraph.—Special to " Star.") DUNEDIN, this day. The late Dr. Irwin Hunter was a noted Rugby footballer and authority on the game. A recent book published by him caused a good deal of criticism. , He had the distinction or representing Otago while he was at high school in 1880. When the second New South Wales team came to New Zealand he represented Otago against the visitors, and in 1888 he played for the Province against Stoddart's English team in three matches, and also against the New Zealand native team, Southland, and Canterbury. He also represented the South Island in 1888, taking part in two matches against the Englishmen. On his return to New Zealand he was for a number of years a member of the Otago Rugby Union but, dissatisfied with its attitude to football problems, he left it act as a tutor for university teams that made football history in Otago,
