CHARITY STAMPS.

CAMPS FOR CHILDREN,

ANTI-TUBERCULOSIS FUND

Everyone has an opportunity to express in an essentially practical form the benevolent spirit which is abroad at Cliristmastide by placing a charity, stamp 011 envelopes containing seasonable greetings. The charity stamp has been issued for the. purpose of assisting to stamp out tuberculosis. It costs only 2d, and can bo bought at any post office. One penny is for" postage and the other for char it v.

If every Christmas card and posted •present carried one of these stamps the Health Department would be richly assisted. The idea is one which niftkes a direct appeal to the sympathies at this time of goodwill. Christmas, the feast of the lfoly Child, is a season when everyone should endeavour to make the hearts of children glad and, in view oi the decision to spend much of the revenue from charity stamps upon health camps for unfortunate youngsters, every purchaser of these "Christmas Seals" makes a contribution to ti;e happiness of children.

A personal appeal has been made by the Prime Minister and the Minister ol Health for the support of the scheme. The Hon. A. J. Stallworthy said, "It is appropriate that the first claim upon the funds raised by the inaugural Christmas Seal should be the children's health camp movement. In the fight against incipient tuberculosis childhood is the period to which our attention must be particularly directed. It is hoped that the success achieved will be such as to enable a large extension of these camps throughout the Dominion."

It is suggested that business firms might assist the Health Department by using charity stamps for a week, or a fow days at least, but the main appeal is to the public at large. A greeting "ard carrying a charity stamp manifests a genuine expression of Christmas sentiment.
