Disappointment.
SCOTT WINS ON A FOUL.
NEW YORK, December 10,
The widely heralded boxing match between Phil Scott, the British heavyweight, and von Porat ended in the second round, when von Porat struck a foul blow, and Scott was declared the winner. Jack Dempsey was the referee.
Scott weighed 14st 811b, and von Porat 14st 2|lb. There was a record crowd, including many well-known people, at Madison Square Gardens.
The first round was von Porat's by a slight margin. Both men missed often. In the second round when von Porat was reaching for his elushV opponent's body he landed a low blow.
Jack Dempsey, who was refereeing tlie fight''for-charity, was uncertain for a few moments. Ho urged Scott to go on, hut Scott slowly sank to the canvas, clutching his hody, grimacing, and apparently in pain. Dempsey lifted Scott like a baby, but j Scott .refused to continue. He wept as J he was led to his chair.
TRIAL CRICKET MATCH.
SYDNEY, December 10. The Test trial cricket match was continued to-day in cooler weather. There were 4000 spectators. _ Ryder's team had made 003 in the first innings, and Woodfull's team had made 309, and in the second innings 341 for two wickets yesterday. _ _ Woodfull's team in the second innings made 541. Bradman made 225, Kippax 170, Allsopp 5, Kigg 0, Burrows 0, Ellis 24,'Blackie H> Hornibrook 1, Wall 2 not out. There were 25 extras. Grimmett took seven wickets for 173, Oxenham two for 97, McCabc one for 42. Alexander, Whitfield, Marks and Ryder took no wickets. Ryder's team in the second winnings made 152 for eight wickets. McCabc made 40, Marks 14, Honocks 5, Whitfield 19, dxenham 4, Walker 9, Jackson 15, Alexander 8, Ponsford 8 not out, Ryder 9 not out. There were 15 extras. The wicket showed signs of wear. Bradman showed restraint and was unhappy when facing Grimmett, who was particularly dangerous. Bradman was out leg-before-wickct when he had added 20 runs to his overnight total. Kippax played Grimmett carefully 5 , but hit the other bowlers freely. He rendered valuable help to his side. He gave two difficult chances. Allsopp again failed with the bat, Rigg was unable to get. going. The remainder of the side went cheaplv. Ryder's team, with 188 to make to win, began the second innings late in the afternoon. As an experiment Ryder tried using the colts first, but the deadly bowling of Blackie and Hornibrook accounted for them one after another at brief .intervals, 'until the rot -was Ryder.and Ponsford.
