THE CITY ENGINEER
A consulting engineer, writing in our columns to-day, makes the excellent suggestion that the City Council should call in outside engineers of high standing to help it to choose a city engineer. The final choice need not rest with these engineers; their duty would be to examine the qualifications of candidates and advise the Council on their relative value. It may be doubted whether "all members of the Council hav"e' ; a clear idea -of what should be sought'for in a city engineer, and without such knowledge they may easily make a mistake. Men like • Mr. Eurkert and M?. Marckbanks, of the Harbour Bridge Commission, could, if they had the time, easily enlighten them on^, these matters. It is so important that the* best applicant should be chosen that we urge the City Council to take this step. • bi. -.'lb;
