BROBERG AND ORGAN HIT OUT.

With four wickets down for 50 in response to Balmoral's total of 279 runs, Y.M.C.A. resumed their first innings at Eden Park on a drenched wicket with a slow outfield. Runs were easy to obtain as slow bowlers could not spin the ball, while the speed merchants were unable to. secure sufficient foothold.

Worth, who had scored 25, not out, on the previous Saturday, and Organ, continued and rims came quickly, due to the aggression of the latter. Despite frequent changes in the bowling, the partnership was not interrupted until Organ (80) was out at 150; the pair adding exactly 100 runs for the fifth wicket. Organ had played splendidly, attacking the bowling and scoring with hard drives on both sides of the wicket. His quota included eleven fours and two sixes, and he was unfortunate in not reaching the century after such a gallant effort. After his departure wickets fell at fairly regular intervals, and the innings closed for 221 runs, quite a respectable total after such a bad beginning. Worth (69, not out) batted throughout the innings in an extremely patient manner. Nevertheless it was a valuable contribution, in which defence dominated. A strong square cut and a leg glance were responsible for the majority of his runs. The Balmoral bowlers had a trying day owing to the conditions. C. Broberg, five for 69, again finished up with the best figures. Organ (three for 05) secured the wickets. With half an hour to bat Y.M.C.A. scored 71 for the last three wickets in their second venture. Organ (33, not out) again batted forcibly, notching a six and four fours.
