RYAN AND GRIFFITHS.
CARNIVAL AT TB AWAMUTU. TB AWAMUTU, this day. The Te Awamutu Swimming Club's carnival on the occasion of the visit of the Australian swimmers, Noel Ryan and Owen Griffiths, was •held last evening in fine but cold weather. There was 'a good attendance of the public. Griffiths had to concede up to 17 seconds in the 100 yards handicap, and proved the winner by a yard from R. L. Adams (Te Awamutu),. who started from the 5 seconds mark, the time being 64 seconds. There was no opposition for Ryan in the 220 yards handicap, but he gave an exhibition over the distance, being paced by two local swimmers. His time was 2.40. The visitors were entertained at afternoon tea, when opportunity was taken by the local club officials to present Noel Ryan with a shaving outfit as a memento of his eighteenth birthday. Results:— Men's Handicap, 33 1-3 Yards.--B. Gibson (Te Awamutu), 2s, 1; C. Dudley (Hamilton), 2s, 2. Ladies' Handicap, 33 1-3 Yards.—Miss H. Crompton (Hamilton), 2s, 1; Miss S. Mclvor (Cambridge), scr, 2. Ladies' Handicap, 50 Yards.—Miss S. Mclvor (Cambridge), scr, 1: Miss Newman (Cambridge), Is, 2; Miss Crompton (Hamilton), Is, 3. Men's Handicap, 100 Yards.—pwen Griffiths (Australia), scr, 1; R. L. Adams (Te Awamutu), ss, 2; E. Hall (Cambridge), ss, 3.
