PARNELL CLUB'S GALA. " ;> MANY KEEN FINISHES. THE CUP TO WAITEMATA. Keen finishes caused much excitement among spectators at the Parnell Amateur Swimming Club's carnival at the Tepid Baths last evening. It was the first club carnival; of the. season, and, apart from the attendance, which was disappointing, was highly successful. The chief event on the programme was the 500 yards interclub relay race for the Tui Memorial Cup. Only Waitemata, Parnell, and Mt. Eden competed, and, as Waitemata never looked like getting beaten, the race was not as exciting as it might have been. One of the most popular events of an excellent programme Was the obstacle race, which caused shrieks of lauglrter. The water polo match between Waitemata A and Ponsonby B, although won easily by "Waitemata, was lively all through, Waitemata being in. fine form. Gramophone music was much appreciated by the crowd, and congratulations are due to the club officials for their, efforts to make the carnival a success. Two silver cups, donated by Mr. W. B.; Upton to encourage competition among the juvenile swimmers,.were presented by the club chairman, Mr. T. Withers, to Miss A. Graham and D. Webster, the winners. of the tiny tot events.
