ART UNIONS OPPOSED.

PROTEST TO GOVERNMENT. PERMITS GIVEN" AERO CLUBS. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) CHRISTCHURCH, Tuesday. The granting of permission to aero clubs to hold art unions was the subject of an emphatic protest by the Christchurch Presbytery to-day. The Rev. Dr. E. Erwin said it was deplorable that such things should be allowed by the Government. It was an alarming thing that appeals on behalf of aero clubs should be made by lottery. The clubs- should be supported by the Government. The following resolution was carried ■unanimously:—"That the Presbytery desires to make an emphatic protest against the action of the Minister of Internal Affairs in sanctioning the lotteries promoted by the aero clubs, and we are especially grieved by, this action of the Government, in view of the assurance given by the late Government' that lotteries would be discouraged 'by the State. That a copy of this resolution be sent to the Assembly's Public Questions Committee with a "suggestion that they endeavour to organise a united representation of all the churches to the Government on the subject."
