TRANSACTIONS ON 'CHANGE.

BUSINESS RATHER BETTER.

BUT BANKS STILL DULL

A good number of sales have been completed since the "Star's" main edition went to press yesterday but, with the exception of a few special lines, the market is dull, with prices still tending downwards. • Bank shares continue to ease, and even for insurances there was only one offer at the first call, namely, for South British, with a buyer at £3. The fall in Bank shares is instanced by a sale of Bank of Australasia at 17/6 under the last sale just over a month back. The report of oil traces at the Gisborne well has revived interest in Taranaki oil shares, and a sale was made at 8d advance. Pukemiro Coals are in request, with buyers at £3 12/. There appears to be fresh interest in breweries' debentures, and several sales have taken place this week at £1 8/. The Noon Call. A few more sales were recorded at the noon call, on the basis of late quotations. Taranaki Oils still attract interest, and holders now ask 5/. New Zealand Breweries are again in request, with buyers at £4 5/3. Interest Rates. The return to the investor on his outlay, based upon the latest dividends and in the case of loans and debentures upon redemption at maturity, works out as follows for the latest sales: — PER CENT PER ANNUM. £ s. d.
