RACECOURSE BUSES.
LICENSED BY TRANSPORT BOARD. FARES TO BE RAISED. BOARD'S FARE ONE SHILLING. The fare to the various Auckland racecourses by bus will in future be at least 1/2, a number of applications for permission to run services to race meetings having been granted at to-day's meeting of the Auckland Transport Board. Mr. V. R. Meredith, appearing for certain bus proprietors, pleaded that the fare be allowed to remain as at present (1/) as it was difficult to collect a "broken" fare. In his opinion an increase would affect the traffic. Mr. J. A. C. Allum pointed out that the board's charge was one shilling, and it was mandatory that an extra twopence should be charged by any operator plying on the board's routes in opposition. Mr. M. J. Coyle was of opinion that Mr. Meredith could find a way out. Mr. Meredith: Yes. The board should charge lOd and the private operators 1/. (Laughter.) Mr. G. Baildon suggested that applicants for services to the racecourses should charge 1/3.
