NEW SHIPPING LINE.

Monthly Service Between N.Z. And America. TO BEGIN NEXT YEAR. SAN FRANCISCO, December 9. The Joseph Constantine Steam Ship Line," Limited, of Middlesbrough, will establish a monthly service from the Pacific coast of America to New Zealand, with three new British steamers of 8500 tons dead weight. The service will be begun early next year, with stops at Auckland, Wellington, Dunedin and other ports. The American ports will be Portland, San Francisco, Los Angeles and Seattle, and in Canada, Vancouver. The proposed service Is not a new one, but the revival of the first steamship cargo service ever run between the Pacific Coast and New Zealand, state the Auckland representatives, Messrs. Spedding, Ltd. The original service was run by the General Steamship Corporation of San Francisco, with the fleet of "West" steamers. In 1920 the General Steamship Corporation withdrew, and the United States Shipping Board, the owners of the vessels, put the service under the management of Swayne and Hoyt, Ltd. Recently the vessels were sold to a shipping combine headed by Matson, Ltd., and are still in the New Zealand trade, though their names have been changed and have the prefix "Golden." _ - Meanwhile the General Steamship Corporation has continued to hun a service to Australia, but with a view to reviving their New Zealand trade they recently invited Mr. W. A. Boucher, of Spedding, Ltd., to discuss the prospects with them at a conference in San Francisco. As stated in the cable message, the Joseph Constantine Steamship Line of Middlesbrough, England, has agreed to take up a monthly service with three of their new 8500-ton steamers. _ The vessels will load lumber, case oil and general cargo at Portland, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Seattle and Vancouver, and will discharge at Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton, Dunedin and outports as required. The first vessel will be the Brookwood, which is scheduled to clear Vancouver early in February. She will be followed by the Goodwood early in March and the Kingswood eaily in April. These three vessels will maintain the service.
