APPLICATIONS FOR CITY. ENGINEER.

The following Mayoral obitefc- dicta affecting the city engineership are reproduced from, the Press: (1) "I may tell you that the committee went through the whole of f:Jie applications very carefully and after doing' so there were only nine we could leave in." (4) "The number should first be reduced to three." May I say that councillors have never yet perused and considered the. seventy-five applications with all attachments?; enclosures, exhibits and photographic reprod) actions and general ensemble? Among the sixty -six Mayoral "duds" I have not yet ticketed a single "never was" nor a "never will be.'". What of the "nascent nine"? I intend to tell Auckland some of the outstanding superqualifications of a number of the unjustlytermed "duds" as to (1) academic training; (2) examinational diplomas, etc.; (?) professional status; (4) experience; (i>) notable achievements in the educational, architectural, engineering, town planning and commercial worlds. I have yet to know oiwe councillor who has personally read, considered and appraised correctly the majority of the fjeventyfive separate files of applications with full enclosures and complete attachmei.Uts.
