SECRET FACTORY.
ENGLISH BID FOR MARKETS. SIX-WHEELERS TO BE BUILT. Sir William Morris, the British motor manufacturer, is to make a sensational onslaught on the heavy commercial car markets of the world.. Under conditions of great secrecy a huge factory has been reconditioned and equipped near Birmingham to produce lorries from 50cwt to 10 ton capacity at the rate of 100 a week, says the London "Daily Mail.". Experiments were started two years ago with the idea of producing a series of lorries and motor coaches which would revolutionise road travel. ,'. Tests were carried out behind locked doors by the Morris firm, of Birmingham, which is the property of Sir William Morris. When many experiments had been made,: a great deserted factory was obtained and quietly stocked with the latest machine tools. Some of these were-brought in at night so as to attract as little attention as possible. Sir William Morris says that he is deter-, mined to produce luxury, coaches in such numbers as. to enable them to be sold, abroad at new low. prices.: It is an tempt to turn out; heavy transport on up-to-date mass production lines. The cost of equipping the new factory, which covers 2S acres, was £250,000, and 5000 hands are employed when in full production.
