UNIVERSITY COUNCIL.
SCHOOL OP FINE ARTS. ACQUISITION OF SITE. With regard to negotiations to acquire the site of the Old Grammar School in Symonds Street for a school of fine arts, Sir George Fowlds, president of the Auckland University, stated yesterday at a meeting of the council that in his opinion the position was not yet hopeless. A letter was received from the Auckland Grammar School Board saying that the board was in full sympathy with the council, and that it would part with the property if others of equal value were given in exchange. This letter the registrar reported he had forwarded to the Town Clerk for further information from the Library Committee of the City Council. In reply, the Town Clerk asked that he be kept advised of any further developments in this connection. It was decided to send a letter of congratulation to Mr. P. C. Minns on his success in being awarded a Rhodes Scholarship. Sir George Fowlds said that he was sure Mr. Minns would worthily uphold the traditions of his college and his country.
