OFF TO ANTARCTIC.
AUCKLANDER'S TRIP. ATTACHED TO RADIO STATION. Tho well-known Auckland wireless expert, Mr. E. J. Orbell, left by the Limited last evening to join the Byrd Antarctic Expedition. Late on Tuesday Mr. Orbell received the news of his inclusion in the party, and as the ship Eleanor Boiling is scheduled to leave on December 10 for the Bay of Whales, he lost no time in getting away. • Mr. Orbell does not know definitely what he will b» called upon to do, but he thinks it will be chiefly repair work to the wireless apparatus carried by the expedition. He considers he has gained this chance through his acquaintance with the wireless operators whom he met at Port Chalmers. Mr. Lloyd Berkner, the chief radio expert, professes himself keenly interested in Mr. Orbell's work Mr. Orbell is a New Zealander by birth, and is recognised as one of the pioneers in New Zealand of wir3i«>s work. He is technical editor of "New Zealand Radio," and is a construction engineer to Radio, Limited, Auckland. At the present time he is recognised as an authority of the first order of all things wireless.
He expects to be back about February,
