SWIMMING.
RYAN AND GRIFFITHS' CARNIVALS.
FIRST GALA TO-NIGHT.
Sterling swimming should be seen at the Tepid Baths this evening, when Noel Ryan and Owen Griffiths, the Australian Btars, will make their first New Zealand appearance at the first of two carnivals arranged by the Auckland Centre of the New Zealand Amateur Swimming Association. The visitors will compete against the local champions in special events, namely, a 100 yards scratch race and a 440 yards scratch race. Chief interest will attach to the meeting of Ryan and G. Bridson, the New Zealand record holder, in the 440 yards event. In the shorter distance Griffiths will he opposed by J. P. Farrell, J. Enwright, and A. Raper. A fine supporting programme has been arranged, and a bumper attendance is anticipated.
