MINING.
MINE MANAGERS' REPORTS.
Occidental Una.—The manager reports
During the past week work in the mine has been confined to work of advancement of the north-west stope on the hangingwall leader, and the leader is still going ahead strongly and is a compact body of stone of heavily mineralised character, and still averages about 9in in thickness, and at last breaking down some line colours and dabß of gold were seen. The channel of country encasing tho leader is a firm andesite interlaced with mineral seams, and all that could be desired for better gold in ore at any time. Crushing is not quite completed from ore won from this leader. Hauraki Mines. —The manager reports that the Stockwood reef in the stopes above the 400 ft level has width of 32in. A few strong blotchcs of gold were seen in the quartz taken down. Rising is in progress for another stope. The seaward face was extended 10ft for the week, leaving 4ft to reach the estimated position of the Venus reef. A few more quartz stringers were passed through during tho week. The country is somewhat firmer, but favourable for gold. Preparations for resuming deep level development work are in progress. The main plunger pump is being overhauled as occasion permits, and it is expected to start unwatering below the 400 ft level this week. It is intended to crosscut from the nooft chamber towards the Union Beach shaft, also in the opposite direction to try and locate the downward continuation of Legges reef. The first reef expected in the Union Beach direction is the Bft reef met with in the shaft below the 500 ft chamber, then the Hauraki system of reefs excepting Legge's, then the Green Harp and Union Beach reefs. The estimated distance to the Stockwood reef is 800 ft. In looking for Legge's reef at this level tho distance is problematic in the amount of displacement of the fault just above the 300 ft level. The reef has not been seen below this point. 1
