RESISTED A CONSTABLE. LOOKED FOR TROUBLE IN NEWTON. James Cripp, aged 37, a steelworkcr, .pleaded guilty, at the Police Court this morning, to charges of being disorderly while drunk in Karangahapo Road on Saturday evening, and resisting Coh* stable S. Gawler, It was stated by Sub-Inspector McCarthy that Cripp, shortly before 6 p.m., tried to board a tramear on the wrong side. The chain was up, and, despite what the conductor told him, he insisted on getting on the tram. Constable Gawler was called, and accused resisted arrest violently. "It was a good light and lasted some time, but eventually a man named Miller came to the constable's assistance, and Cripp was taken into custody," added Mr. McCarthy. The sub-inspector added that a big crowd gathered. Those who looked on were not favourable to the constable. Cripp boasted that he was a pugilist, and wanted to fight the whole police force. Cripp was fined £1, or three days' imprisonment on the first charge, and £2, or seven days, on the second. '
