PAINTER'S ARREST.

THEFT FROM DOCTOR'S HOUSE

RING AND MONEY TAKEN.

DISHONEST WORKMAN REMANDED

"I suppose he thinks he is going to walk out of the court on probation. Well he isn't," said Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., at the Police Court to-day, when he remanded Edward Holder Mclntyre, aged 21, a painter, until next Thursday on two charges of theft.

Mclntyre was charged with the theft of a diamond engagement ring, valued at £30 belonging to Isabel Paterson, on November 6, and on November 1 with stealing £1 in money, the property of the same lady.

Accused admitted both charges. It was stated by Chief Detective Hammond that Mclntyre had been employed by a painting and decorating firm at Dr. Paterson's house at Mount Albert. While engaged in staining a floor he stole the engagement ring and on another occasion he took a£l note. Accused pledged the ring for £4. Mclntyre had never been in trouble previously.
