DOUBLE DROWNING.

SWIMMER AND CUSTODIAN. TRAGEDY IN PUBLIC BATHS. MAN DRAGGED DOWN BY YOUTH. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) PALMERSTON NORTH, Wednesday. The beginning of the swimming season at Woodville was marked by a double drowning accident at the municipal baths this evening. The victims were:— Hubert Noel Dew, aged 21, swimming bath custodian. Leslie George Kiwi Goldsack, aged 10, grocer's assistant. The two victims, with Goldsack's younger brother, Stanley, went to the baths at six o'clock. Leslie Goldsack entered the water, and a > few minutes later complained that he was choking, and called for help.

Dew, who liad only recently been appointed custodian of the batlis, dived in to the rescue. He was gripped by the drowning boy, and both sank. Stanley Goldsack hurried away for assistance. Mr. Jack Home dived into the baths and brought Dew to the surface, and he and Dr. Mules attempted for two hours to revive him, but their efforts were in vain. Subsequently Leslie Goldsack's body was recovered, and again artificial respiration was attempted without avail.
