BRITISH CARS.

Manufacturers Lay Troubles Before Minister. NEEDS OF INDUSTRY. (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, November 27. Representatives of the British section of the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders, headed by Sir Herbert Austin, met Mr. J. H. Thomas, Lord Privy Seal, at the House of Commons yesterday afternoon to discuss with him the needs of the British motor car industry, with particular reference to the export trade. It is understood that the manufacturers suggested abolition of the horsepower tax, which, they said, handicaps the efforts of British firms to compete with foreign manufacturers in the world markets.

The deputation also laid stress upon the necessity for continuing the tariff against foreign cars and urged the need for some definite statement of the Government's policy on that point.
