WORLD PEACE.

AMERICA AND BRITAIN. WORKING FOR AN OBJECTIVE. "There is a strong feeling in the United States at present in favour of general co-operation with England," said the Rev. Dr. J. C. Lee, of Boston, who arrived from the Islands by the Tofua. "With complete understanding between the two nations there would be a union for peace such as the world has never before known. And there can be no doubt that the day of that understanding is rapidly approaching. The antiBritish sentiment which is sometimes echoed from the United States is not representative of the people. It emanates from a decided minority and can be entirely disregarded."

Dr. Lee is a graduate of Harvard University, and has been associated with higher education in the United States for a number of years, and, having retired, he and his wife are now making a world holiday tour. For some time Dr. Lee was president of the University of St. Lawrence, one of the large universities

in the State of New York. He lectured frequently in English literature. After leaving the university he was pastor in several leading American churches.

Dr. Lee said, to Americans New Zealand was one of the most interesting parts of the British Empire. Perhaps this was accounted for because of the progressive spirit of the country. In the matter of humanitarian legislation the United States had copied much from that particular branch of New Zealand's reform measures. He stated that he was particularly interested in the Dominion's education system, and. he hoped to investigate its working during his short stay in the country.

Dr. and Mrs. Lee will visit Rotorua and other North Island scenic resorts before joining the Niagara at Auckland for Sydney on Tuesday next.
