TE OKI OKI BUNGALOWS.

Being a Mangere ratepayer, I am much interested in your report of the deputation -which waited on the Manulcau County Council with a petition objecting to the erection of flats at Mangere East. I think councillors would have shown better foresight if, before opposing it. they had interviewed the promoters of the scheme. As it was, 9S per cent of those who signed, did so in ignorance of Tvhat it represented, not having seen plans or specifications and having no idea of the structural lay out. _ The drainawe bogy was raised, yet it is quite reasonable to expect that the portion of the proposed drainage scheme serving that locality should be operating inside a year. The by-laws would not prohibit the erection of, say, a five-storeyed block of flats on the same site. Yet this scheme, which works admirably in other parts of the world, and which is the most up-to-date idea for suburban residences so far submitted to any New Zealand county council, is turned down. CLEAR VISION.
