RICCARTON JOTTINGS.

, ARIKIWAI BEAPFEARS. WINDING UP CHIDE FOR ELLERSLIE ' (By Telegraph.—Special to " Star.") CHRISTCHURCH, this day. As usual Riccarton stables will be well represented at the holiday meetings on the West Coast. Several of the local trainers are making preparations for the trip.

Paquito raced unluckily on the Australian trip, as he won only one small race, but his form when third in the Metropolitan Handicap, and second in the Melbourne Cup, was good. He has done well since he returned home, and he should be seen to advantage in any events he contests during the holidays. G. J. Pine may take some horses North for the Manawatu and Wairarapa meetings during the holidays. Several members of his team look like paying their way very soon. Arikiwai is due to make his reappearance at the Ashburton meeting next week. He raced only once last season, running third in the open sprint at Ashburton in June. He has been doing useful work lately, and if he remains sound he should do good services for F. D. Jones' stable later in the season. Chide looks none the worse for his three races at the C.J.C. meeting. He continues to get through useful tasks, and a few good gallops should see him at his best for his Auckland Cup engagement.

The three-year-old filly Dutch Money has been nominated for the Ashburton meeting next week, but after that she may be eased up for as it is not intended to race her at any of the holiday meetings. Several two-year-olds claim engagements in the Laghmor Plate, the maiden event at the Ashburton meeting next week. Among them is Sleipner, a speedy Riccarton youngster, who ran third to Tea Party and Tray Bond in the Irwell Handicap at the C.J.C. meeting.
