TRANSPORT BOARD.

MR. F. S. MORTON TO TOUR,

FAREWELLED BY LOCAL BODIES.

At the conference of suburban local bodies held at Newmarket last night to discuss the transport problem, the chairman, Mr. S. Donaldson reminded those present that Mr. F. S. Morton, representative of several outside local bodies on the Transport Board, would next week leave on three years' tour abroad. On behalf of the representatives at the conference, Mr. Donaldson moved a hearty vote of thanks to Mr. Morton.

"He has worked hard, so hard that his health has failed," said the chairman. "Ho has also been a most active member who has had the interests of local bodies at heart all the time." (Applause). It was a matter of great regret that Mr. Morton found it necessary to leave at the present juncture.

"Are you taking the wife with you?" asked Mr. Donaldson.

: "No, he has not found one yet," said someone.

Other speakers congratulated Mr. Morton on the strong stand he had taken at meetings of the Transport Board, and wished him a pleasant voyage and a safe return.

The motion was carried by acclama ;ion.

In returning thanks Mr. Morton said he had always done what he considered to be right in the interests of everyone in the transport area. The time was not far distant, he thought, when the position would be clarified. He grateful for the assistance and support and the many kindly sentiments received from many local bodies.
