BOXING.
HAY TO MEET THOMAS,
Excellent form is being shown in the gymnasium by Billy Thomas, the Welsh welter-weight boxer, who is to meet Artie Hay, of Hastings, at the" Northern Boxing Association's carnival in the Town Hall to-morrow evening. The Welshman is/a clever boxer, possessed of a good defence, but in Hay he will be meeting the welter and middleweight champion of New Zealand. In his last two fights at Auckland Hay showed himself a vastly improved boxer, s and he demonstrated his punching ability by stopping Lachie Macdonald. If punishment is to;be taken he can take it, and, generally, he is a worthy champion. Tliomas' record makes him out to be a hard man to beat, and "it will be interesting to see how the New Zealander fares against him. The match should be productive of some excellent boxing and a big attendance is expected. The professional bout will be preceded by a number of likely amateur contests.
