INDIGNANT R.S.A. MEMBERS
ALLEGED STATEMENT IN COURT
"There is only one way we can deal with this—to hand it to the Auckland Law Society," said Lieutenant-Colonel T. H. Dawson, acting-chairman, at last night's meeting of the executive of the Auckland Returned Soldiers' Association, when a letter was received from the Franklin branch regarding a statement alleged to have been made by Mr. E. A. Singer, barrister, during the trial of Dr. Share at the Supreme Court. The letter stated that members of the Franklin Returned Soldiers' Association had spoken very feelingly at a meeting on November 14, in regard to statements alleged to have been made by Mr. Singer during the course of the recent criminal case against Dr. Share._ The Franklin Association considered, it was stated, that the Auckland Association should take steps to ensure that such allegedly libellous statements would not be at any time again possible. It was decided that the matter be referred to the president, Mr. A. C. A. Sexton, and Lieutenant-Colonel Dawson, with an instruction that they take it up with the Law Society. A member said he had never Keen any indecent photographs in the possession of men of the N.Z.E.F. during the whole of his war experience; Mr. W. T. Camp said he had once accompanied a padre in the examination of the kits of 000 New Zealand soldiers. In only one kit among that number was there an indecent photograph. It was untrue that the men generally had had such things. Another member remarked that he had resigned from the Savage Club, of which Mr. Singer was rangitira, because he had taken exception to the statements made in Court.
