DROWNING AVERTED.
STRUGGLE WITH UNDERTOW.

DUNEDIN, this day.
A young woman named Calder, a nurse, had a narrow escape from drowning while swimming at St. Clair Beach. She was a hundred yards out when she was seen to throw her arms up and signal for help. Richard Coxon swam out and srasped her, but he could make no headway against the undertow. Ivan Turnbull swam to his, assistance with a life line against a strong current, and the three got ashore exhausted. Miss Calder, on recovering, said she would have been drowned but for the youth's promptness and courage.
