BOWLING.

HIKUTAIA CLUB. In the presence of a large attendance at the Alley Memorial Park on Saturday the Hikutaia Bowling, Croquet and Tennis Clubs opened their greens for the coming season. Mr. B. Elliot, president of the Bowling Club, referred to the success of the bowling club, whose team had held the Frasei Stars for a considerable period of last season, while the tennis team, under the captaincy of Mr. V. Young, had gone through the season without a loss, thereby winning the Mills Cup in the Thames Valley Tennis Association's B competition. The throwing of the jack by Mrs. Elliot, and the delivery of the first bowl by Mr. A. McLaren, were greeted with applause. Proceeding to the croquet green Mr. Elliot, on behalf of Mrs. Alley, the president of the club, extended a hearty welcome to the visiting ladies. On -the tennis courts Mr. E. Turner, the president, extended a welcome to the large number of visiting players, and Mrs. Turner served the first ball j . . Bowling teams representing the president and vice-president were picked, and at the close of play it was seen that the president was the winner, the scores being 123 to 121.
