ROWING.
AUCKLAND CLUB. TRIAL FOURS STARTED. The Auckland Rowing Club opened the season on Saturday afternoon with a set of trial fours for the Pewter Mug. Good water was experienced over the course from Orakei to the eastern tide deflector. Mr. R. Leabourne was judge and starting was by mutual consent. The crews were:—R. Stacey, A. Finn, H. Buck, Merson, Cochrane (cox) ; A. J. Gilligan, R. Mahon, A. Doull, W. Fleming, Mouat (cox) ; J. Bygate, S. Scott, A. Coutts, I. Hoggard, Stacey (cox) ; J. McComlsh, B. Thorburn, K. Wood H. Plumincr, Lambert (cox). Stacey led for the first 300 yards. Bygate then drew level, and it was a neek-and-neck go for the reef oil Point Resolution. McComish and Gilligan were'two or three lengths back. Bygate on the !n----side put on a great spurt coming up to the reef, and entered the straight half a length ahead of Stacey. A great battle to the linish ensued, but Bygate crossed the line with half a length to the good. McComish was three lengths behind Stacey third, with Gilligan a similar distance back..
