Smytheman, 19yds, and D. Kerr-Taylor, 10yds, dead-heat 1;. E. C. Wooller, 10yds, 3. Time, 22 4-ss. Smytheman quickly ran to the front, but Kerr-Taylor drew level almost on the tape. Schoolgirls, over 11, 75yds.—Miss J. Cowling 1, Miss A. Harvey 2, Miss P. Neil 3. Schoolboys, under 11, 220 yds.—M. Coon, 45yds, 1; G. Dubb, 45yds, 2; D. List, 10yds, 3. Time, 29 2-ss. Coon led all the way and won by a yard. One Mile Open Handicap.—R. McKenzie, 140 yds, 1; N. F. Cooper, scr, 2; J. Jones, 170 yds, 3. Time, 4m 44 3-ss. There was a big field. Jones was leading at the end of the second round and Cooper was steadily overhauling the field. Half-way through the third round McKenzie went to the front and was running in that position without serious challenge until Cooper put in a great finish and was only five yards behind at the tape. There were two yards between second and third. Schoolboys, over 11, 880 Yards.—P. Anderson, 2yds, 1; W. Landon, scr, 2 ; J. Harvey. 3yds behind, 3. Time, 2.30 4-ss. Although there was a large field the three back-markers were the only ones that were able to put in a good finish. They were all close together. 440 Yards Open Handicap.—.R. L. Barley, 20ycis, 1; V. Kerr-Taylor, scr, 2 ; S. Nicholson, 30yds, 3. Time, 555. Kerr-Taylor ran. a good race, his time belntc 56 3-ss. Relay Race, 850 Sards.—Papatoetoe A.A. and Cycle Club 1. The team comprised Bennett, Liddle and Smytheman, and won by 15 yards. The other competitors were the Papatoetoe Public School and the Papatoetoe League Football Club. At the conclusion of the carnival medals were presented to the successful competitors by Mr. T. R. Smytheman, chairman of the Papatoetoe Touli Board. Mr. W. Morton, president of the Auckland Amateur Athletic Association, congratulated the new club upon the success of its opening carnival, and upon the manner in which it had been conducted. He referred specially to the work of Mr. C. G. Culpan, handicapper and starter. Among those present were: J. W. Savidan, N.Z. distance champion ; A. J. Elliott, N.Z. sprint champion ; L. H. Meredith, Auckland, 440 yards champion; and L. C. Barker, N. F. Cooper, F. L. Whitten and J. A. Crum, cross-country runners of Auckland, and D. Kerr-Taylor, Auckland, 440 hurdles champion of Auckland.
