LAWN TENNIS.
SATURDAY'S ACTIVITIES. REMUERA CLUB. "I have much pleasure in welcoming the visitors and new members," said Mr. E. W. Griffiths, president of the Kemuera Club, in declaring his courts open. Mr. Griffiths said that the committee had formed a subcommittee to look after the new members. Thanks to Mr. E. Tonks, chairman of the grounds committee, and Mr, Cole, the groundsman, the courts were in excellent condition. The finances of the club were in a healthy condition. There were a few vacancies, but Mr. Griffiths was sure that these would be filled in a very short time. In the course of a few remarks, Mr. E. Hickson, president of the Auckland Lawn Tennis Association, said that the association's intention was to put down ten sand courts this season. If that were carried out it would mean that more interclub matches would be played on association courts. This would relieve the individual club courts. Over 240 members have been enlisted for the Kemuera Club this season, and the club is the largest in the Auckland province. Improvements are being made to the twelve courts which the club possesses. Progressive tournaments played resulted in wins for Miss Suter and B. Brownley.
