CENTURY BY WHITELAW. AUiCOTT GETS RUNS FAST. PARNELL AND CEICKET STRATEGY Despite the fact that soft wickets ■were general on Saturday, when the (third series of senior matches was commenced, and scoring in most instances was in accordance, there were some lively interludes provided by at least two batsmen. Wensley celebrated his first New Zealand appearance for Parnell by hitting up 55 runs in quick time, chiefly by vigorous hitting on the leg side. Another bright innings was that of Allcott, who hit up a fast 73 for Grafton. With the fillip given by Wensley's knock in the early stages, Parnell ran up a total of 300 against United Suburbs, Whitelaw playing a steady innings for 134, his runs being made crisply when the wicket got faster in the late afternoon. The Parnell innings concluded with some comedy, when the last man tried to get out in order that the opposition might be caught in a fading light. Finding that the bowlers and wicketkeeper were trying to keep him there, he eventually hit his wicket. Suburbs lost three wickets for 27 runs. Graf ton's tally against Eden was 199, which included 78 by Allcott and 40 by Eorspool, while Eden got 41 runs without loss. Y.M.C.A. were dismissed by University for 113 runs, and the students put on 50 for two wickets. North Shore made 146 against Ponsonby, who had lost two for 37 at stumps.
