"COMPULSORY STOP."

NOTICES BADLY PLACED.

MAGISTRATE'S OPINION.

PROSECUTION DISMISSED.

'By Telegraph.—Press Association.)

CHRISTCHURCH, this day.

Mr. Levvey, S.M., dismissed a charge against Herbert Bertram Veitch of failing to observe a "Compulsory stop" notice at the Harewood Road railway crossing.

Mr. J. S. Hawkes, secretary of the Automobile Association, said he did not think the Railway .Department had given much thought to the placing of notices. They were not necessary at certain places, including Harewood Road.

The magistrate said he had inspected a number of crossings and he did not think the stop notices were being placed to the best advantage. The best way to bring the matter under the notice of the Railway Department was to dismiss the case.
