HAMILTON, Wednesday. A middle-aged man, Charles Mozart Spinley, was to-day sentenced to six months' imprisonment for obtaining £12 10/ from Albert Newby, of Hamilton, by means of a valueless cheque. Spinley, who is awaiting sentence for similar offences at Rotorua, Te Aroha, and Cambridge, said he would try to make restitution if he were given a chance. Spinley's method was to arrive at a place by service car and present to the booking agent a cheque purporting to have been drawn by his employer at some distant place from which he had just arrived. Accused has a 'list," including forgery and uttering, false pretences, # passing counterfeit coins, and theft.
