Provision to conler tipon the Auckland City Council the powers of a Domain Board, pending the setting apart of Motuihi Island or a part thereof as a domain under ' the Public Reserves, Domains and National Parks, Act, 1928, is contained in the Reserves and Other Lands Disposal Bill, introduced in the House of Representatives last night. The clause validates certain exxpenditure by the council on the island, which v was acquired .by the Crown in 1872 for purposes of a quarantine station. The island has been used for quarantine purposes by the Departments of Health and Agriculture in connection with the port of Auckland. The ultimate objective is to make this island available for the purposes of a marine park, and to vest control in the Auckland City Council. In December, 1928, permission was #iven the council to use portion of the islandfor domain purposes, upon certain conditions, which necessitated the erection of a substantial fence to enclose that portion of the island upon which the quarantine buildings stand. The council has also incurred other expenditure_ incidental to the use of portion of the island for domain purposes.
