PERMIT GRANTED.

HAMPTON COURT FLATS. SPECIAL CIRCUMSTANCES. A permit to erect a block of flats at an estimated cost of about £32,000 on the corner of Wellcsley Street West and Vincent Street was granted yesterday by the Town Planning Committee, which had been given power to act by the City Council. The block will be known as Hampton Court. This was one of the applications which was held over pending the recommendations of the Town Planning Board in respect of the application of the promoters of Marlborough Mansions for permission to build a block of "bachelor flats" on an adjacent section in Vincent Street. After lengthy discussion the committee granted the application for the Hampton Court block on condition that access is given to the light-well from a space at the rear of the building by a lined concrete passage and provided the building in all respects complied with the city by-laws and with the Fire Board regulations. It is also set forth in the resolution of tho committee: "That although in , the opinion of the committee the proposals do not conform with recognised practice in town-planning, in view of tho special circumstances attaching to the application, namely, that formal .application for the permit was made before the council's adoption of general principles governing this type of building, and also of the fact that the building would be a corner site, on each frontage of which tho proprietors have with the approval of the council's officers made adjustments of boundaries to make the site more suitable for a residential building of the multi-family type, 1/lie permit should lie issued.
