BUTTER FOR CANADA.

RARANGA'S BIG SHIPMENT.

FINELY-WORKED SCHEDULE.

CHRISTMAS MARKET AT HOME.

Auckland had a good indication of the importance of the Canadian butter market when the Raranga steamed out of the Waitemata this afternoon tor Halifax, with 88,500 boxes of new season's produce on board for that port, and an additional 58,000 for London. It was the largest shipment of produce from, Auckland this season, and brought up the total for the past three months to 458,000 -boxes of butter. ■ The Raranga is possibly the last boat from Auckland that will catch the Christmas trade at Home. She is to run to a finely-worked schedule based on a trip of 33 days from Auckland to Halifax, about a week at that'port, and then a run across the Atlantic, to reach London on December 15 or 16. To load the steamer, the interested firms have been working at liigli pressure for. over a week. At the grading stores the staff has had difficulty in coping with the position, and it is reported that only the necessary minimum of four days was available for the Government officials to pass the shipment. For the past two years there has been a growing indication of the importance of the dairy produce trade witlv Canada, and the market has served to relieve congestion on the London market at the height of the season. "Tlie demand is there for our produce," said one of the members of the New Zealand Dairy Control Board to-day, "and the butter can be sold for three months of the year." He added that last season shij)ments were sent to Canadian ports right up to March. This season the Raranga was the third steamer to take butter to the East Canadian ports. With regard to butter generally, the output of the Auckland Province had been slightly in excess of last season, although rather late on account of colder weather. Cheese shipments had totalled 23.500 crates from Auckland, the Raranga "s share being 4500.
