FRAUD BY SEAMAN.
ISSUED VALUELESS CHEQUES. EXTRA THREE MONTHS' GAOL. A seaman named John McArthur, aged 3 0, appeared at the' Police Court this morning, when he admitted two charges of obtaining goods valued at £1 9/4 and money totalling £1 10/4 by means of valueless cheques. He pleaded guilty to a further charge of stealing a cheque book valued at S/4 belonging to, William Dyson on September (i. Chief Detective Hammond said Mr. Dyson was a barge proprietor. On September 6 McArthur went to the barge and stole the cheque book. He issued several valueless cheques in Wellington and in Auckland. Accused was at present serving thre"6 months' imprisonment which had been imposed at Wellington. McArthur had one previous conviction for theft.
Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., sentenced accused to three months' imprisonment, to take effect at the expiry of his present sentence.
