NEW SAWMILL.

MODERN MACHINERY. INSTALLATION AT EDGECUMBE. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) WHAKATANE, this day. The work of installing machinery at I Messrs. G. Symes and Company's new mill at Edgecumbe is being started. The sawmill was erected some time ago and the machinery is now on the. ground. It is expected that it will be erected in time to start operations in five months. The mill will be equipped with laboursaving machinery, including twin break-ing-down saws, travelling bench, breast bench, and deal frames. Power will be provided by a 90 h.p. boiler fitted with a forced-draught furnace, burning tawdust and other waste. The mill will be capable of cutting 15,000 to 20,000 super feet per day, and will give employment to a large number of men. The tramway line is the joint undertaking of three firms interested in Mataliina lands, the Matahina Rimu Company, of Auckland. Messrs. G. Symes and Company, Ltd., of Haw era, and Mr. R. W. Smith, of Ractihi. It will be completed shortly. The railhead is 15 miles from the Edgecumbe railway station.
