YACHTING.

AUCKLAND ASSOCIATION.

FIXTURES FOR THE SEASON.

OFFICE-BEARERS ELECTED

The annual meeting of the Auckland Yecht and Motor Boat Association was &£ld last evening in tiie Royal New Zea: fand Yacht Squadron's rooms, Mr. C. H. Palmer presiding over a full attendance of delegates, representing all clubs on the Wa item at a and Manukau.

An apology was received from the chairman, Mr. O. E. Moller, who was detained in Wellington.

The annual report, submitted by the secretary, Mr. A. J. Collings, stated that it was gratifying to record the continued cordial relations between the association and the various affiliated clubs, 11101 e particularly as the same friendly teelin<* existed amongst the clubs themselves. Whilst no new clubs have been affiliated, there has been formed an outboard division of the New Zealand Power Boat Association, for the encouraging ot outboard racing, and represented on the association by the power boat delegates. The fields in the various yachting events were not quite so good as in previous Years. Whilst the larger keel craft still competed as enthusiastically as ever, and added interest was promised in the advent of a new A class keeler, it was regretted that in some, at least, of the smaller classes there was not the one time large entries. In the mullet hoat classes there remained the keenest interest in the L class, whilst the M and V classes both furnished excellent racing. The registrations of new V class craft°for the coming seasori would indicate that this class would assume even greater prominence 111 . racing programmes. Motor boat racing, more particularly cruisers, suffered still further setbacks, but in its place had appeared outboard racing, which promised this season to bring out large fields and to secure the interest of the general public.

Reference was made to the victory of Avalon at Akaroa, and the necessity of making arrangements for the forthcoming contest for the Sanders Cup. The success of the Cornwell Cup crew was also referred to, and the fact that the Takapuna Club intended to offer the contest to some centre where the class is in need of encouragement was approved. The association is pressing for a maximum possible clearance under the bridge at Hobson Bay so that pleasure craft may have as ready access as possible to the basin.

Thanks were expressed to the Auckland Harbour Board, the "Royals," the racing officialsand all who had aided in the conduct of'the affairs of the association.

The' balance-sheet showed receipts to be £91 11/11, leaving a balance to credit of £20 16/4.

Considerable discussion ensued on the question of a system of single prizes for each class on the opening and closing days. Mr. N. L. Macky said that the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron was against more than one prize in each class, and had decided not to take part in the opening events. The Takapuna Club had also decided not to compete on opening day under the usual conditions. • A proposal to allot the control of the combined days to clubs in rotation was discussed and several alteratives: It was finally agreed that the following suggestions be submitted to the clubs: — (a) Carry on as at present, all clubs combining and providing their own prizes; (b) substituting a combined display in place of racing; (c) association to allot the fixture to one club, which will carry out races and provide all prizes; (d) any other method which may be suggested.

A suggestion by the Devonport Club delegates that a committee be set up, not necessarily from delegates, to form a standing sailing committee, was also referred to the clubs.

A lette r was received from the Christchurch Yacht and Motor Boat Association, notifying that this association had decided to recommend at the next conference that rule 3, "boats not to be interfered with," be retained in the rules The letter pointed out that it was desirable that power should be given to the conference to resail a race in which a boat had been interfered with deliberately or by a boat outside the race, i A vote of thanks to the retiring officers i concluded the business, |
