THAMES GIRLS' CLUB.
A large number of members of the Thames Girls' Club attended the second annual meeting, which was held in the Y.W.C.A. social rooms last evening. In the absence of the patroness, Mrs. A. D. Campbell, Mayoress, Mrs. G. R. Hutchinson, vice-patroness, presided and in a brief speech welcomed all who attended. The annual report, which was read by the secretary, Miss N. Surman, stated that the membership of the club now stood at 119, and the past year had shown a good increase of members. During the year donations had been made °to St. John Ambulance Association and the earthquake relief fund. Several social functions had been held and at two of these, which were given for the Rev. Scrimgeour, parcels had been collected for distribution among the poor and needy. The treasurer's statement, read by Miss Aitken, showed a substantial credit balance in the bank. In her address Mrs. P. McGregor, president, spoke of the objects of the club. She said they were to promote a spirit of friendship, love, honour and unity among the members and she expressed the hope that in the coming year they would continue as they had done in the past. It had been a great pleasure to the old pioneers of the Thames early days - and their descendants, said Mrs. McGregor, that the club was proving such a success. The election of officers resulted:—Mrs. P. McGregor, re-elected president; vice-presidents, Mrs. T. Aitken, Miss C. Dick and Mrs. J. D. Crawford (all re-elected); hon. secretary, Miss N. Surman; hon. treasurer, Miss Aitken; committee, Mrs. Anderson, Mrs. T. Clarke, Mrs. Cordes, Mrs. Culpitt, Mrs. Davidson, Mrs. Gribble, Mrs. Hubber, Mrs. M. Kerr, Mrs. Mclntyre, Mrs. Mrs. Reardon, Mrs. Stubbing, Miss Reardon and Mrs. Wright. During the evening bouquets and small gifts of appreciation were presented to members of the executive, and later supper was served. A feature of the supper table was a birthday cake illuminated with two burning candles, and it was cut by Mrs. Hutchinson, assisted by Mrs. Jensen, a- life member.
