MOTOR CYCLING.

NEWS AND NOTES.

NEW WORLD'S RECORDS.

BEACH RACING EVENTS,

Race meetings will commence on the new Western Springs Stadium shortly under the auspices of the Auckland Cinder Speedway Club. This club has arranged for half a. dozen riders to make the trip to Christchurch to race at the opening fixture at Monica Park. After the meeting there the riders will return to' Auckland for the big opening meeting. The riders selected for Christchurch are W. Allen (Norton), Cass Goodwin (Royal Enfield), A. Lemon (Rex Acme), A. Mattson (Norton), J. Garmson (Rex Acme), and C. Goldberg (Royal Enfield). NEW WORLD'S RECORD. The single-cylinder world's record for 50 miles has been raised to 105.16 miles per hour by a Raleigh. A CLOSE FINISH. In the recent 200-mile sidecar races at Brooklands, the placed machines, a Velocette and an Excelsior, finished only 14yds apart. CYCLES BEAT CARS. In the London-Land's End reliability test, the motor cycle retirements were 5.7 per cent of the entry, Avhile in the car class 17 per cent failed to finish. AUSTRIAN T.T. British machines successfully contested the Austrian Tourist Trophy races, a Rudgo Whitworth winning the senior race, and a Chater-Lea securing the honours in the junior event. SOUTH AFRICAN RACE. The Natal "100," a popular road race, has been won by a Montgomery j rider, with a Zenith second and a Royal Enfield' third. An Indian established the fastest lap. CINDER SPORT WANING. According to the English "Motor Cycle" it is stated that there is a growing interest in grass track racing in the Liverpool district. This district was, last season, a stronghold of dirt track racing, but it now appears as if the cinder sport is waning. NO HANDS OFF. In certain states in America any motor cyclist who rides "hands off" in populous areas, is subject to arrest, followed by three months' imprisonment. There are a few foolish riders about the streets of Auckland, particularly on Sunday, who would serve long sentences if such a law prevailed in New Zealand. BIG IRISH TEST. The second national reliability championships of the Motor Cycle Union of Ireland was decided recently. The test extended over twenty-four hours, and was so severe that no side-car rider succeeded in gaining sufficient marks to warrant a first-class award. The championship was won by G. Miles (488 c.c. A.J.S., solo), and H. Tyrell-Smith (499 c.c. Rudge-Whitworth) sidecar class.

A MEETING- POSTPONED.

WEANGAREI CLUB UNLUCKY.

(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) WHANGAREI, this day.

The meeting of the Whangarei Motor Cycle Racing Club was postponed yesterday on account of the weather. It ■was very rainy in the morning and relented somewhat towards midday, but just before the time of the first race there was a heavy downpour, which finally decided the executive on the postponement. There were two considerations, the safety of the riders and preservation of the track for a meeting of the racing club next week. Quite a large crowd, which gathered outside the gates, were disappointed, especially as the afternoon subsequently cleared.

The club was indeed unfortunate, as there was every prospect of a record success, with some of the Dominion's best riders engaged.
