WHEEL AND TRACK NOTES.

COMING MEETINGS.

(By ORION.)

November 2—Wellington Trotting Club. Nov. 12, 14. 15— N.Z. Metropolitan T.C Nov. 20, 23 —Otahuliu T.C. Dec. 26. —Ashhurton T.C. Dec. 26.—Gore T.C. Dec. 27, 28, 31.—Auckland T.C. Dec. 28.—Win ton T.C. Dec. 30. —Inangahua T.C. Jan. 1, 2. —Canterbury Park T.C. Jan. o.—Westland T.C. Jan. 4, 6.—Greymouth T.C. Jan. H.—Timaru T.C. Jan. 25 —Wellington T.C.

K. McMalion is turning Holiora out for a spell for a week or so. The gelding did not go well yesterday, and evidently does not stand much racing.

Carmel, when brought down by Goldman in the Campbell Handicap, received an injury to his shoulder, and the chestnut may have to be given a good spell, sufficient to make him miss the Otaliuhu Trotting Club's meeting.

There was solid backing for Tiger Salve in the Hillsboro' Trot yesterday, and the Rock Huon gelding wound up favourite. He trotted well, but never looked like' getting in the money.

In the results of the Greymouth meeting on Saturday Imprint was credited with covering a mide and a half and half a /urlong in 3.22, which was a remarkable performance. It now transpires that the correct time was 3.32.

J. Shaw had no luck at the meeting with his team, although he went close to bringing off a surprise with Florent yesterday. The son of Florizel is not at the top of his form, and it was the want of that little bit of condition that found him out at the end.

The Mangere trainer, S. August, does not have many ftorses in training these times, but he manages to win a fair share of the stake money. Two wins and a second with Rockburn at the meeting shows that he has the ba> gelding better than he has been for a long time. Rockburn is possessed of a fair turn of speed, and in addition stays on well.

E. A. McMillan is entitled to great praise for the improvement he has worked in Peter McKinney. Since the Tamahere trainer secured the son of Petereta ho has won three races out of four • starts, and though he is getting back in the handicaps he will still be a hard proposition for the opposition to dispose of.

The best thing beaten at the meeting was Sunshower in the Insulation Handicap yesterday. Had the daughter of Sungod left the mark right she would have won by a "week." When she did hit her straps she was lengths behind the field, but put in a wonderful run over the last couple of furlongs to finish fifth without any trouble.

Another defeat went down to Etta Cole, but the chestnut mare must be given credit for going a fine race to beat all but the much-improved Peter McKinney. Not once through the race did the mare put a foot wrong, and it would seem she is not quite so good as her track work suggested. Still she is smart and being a young mare will be with the best later on.

The performance of Linnet the Great when she won yesterday came as a no surprise after her good run_ on the opening day. The Messrs. McKendrick Bros., who purchased her on Saturday, did not have to wait long before getting a return, and as she is not nearly at her best yet, she is bound to get a lot of money. She is a fine trotter, and promises to reach the best class befoie the season is out.

It is not very often Hal Chimes elects to go away from the mark right, but yesterday he was in a better mood than usual, and though not actually stepping into his straps in a stride, lie did not lose a great deal before he was under way. In the Junction Handicap, two miles, he looked to have the race won when he left his feet about two furlongs from home and dropped out. He came out in the concluding event, the Insulation Handicap, and ran a great race, being only beaten a nose by Rockburn.
