THE YEAR VIII.
Mussolini's Message To "Black Shirts." RICH IN EFFORT. ROME, October 27. The Prime Minister of Italy, Signer Mussolini, spectacular as ever, yesterday .issued, a message to the "Black Shiris" of Italy- in connection with the eighth Fascist new year which will begin on Monday. After referring to what had been done in the year VII. the message said the year VIII. would be no less rich in efforts and in fruitful work. The practice of dating the years from the commencement of the Fascist era is widespread throughtout Italy. Stone tablets on which are inscribed the words' "Aurip VII." are to be seen on many houses and monuments. This inscription bids fair to be a first-class puzzle for excavators centuries hence.
FIGHTS IN MELBOURNE. " BLACK SHIRTS" ATTACKED. (Received 11.30 a.m.) MELBOURNE, this day. Knives, bottles and sticks were used in a battle outside a hall when an attempt was made to break up a meeting of Italian Fascists. About 150 "Black Shirts" assembled to celebrate the anniversary of the rise of Mussolini. Anti-Fascists of various nationalities stormed the hall and wild scenes followed, in which four were badly injured.'
