SUMMER TIME IN SCHOOLS.
RURAL COMMITTEES OBJECT. There has not been nearly so much agitation this year among country school committees concerning the evils of the introduction of summer time as there was last year. The Board of Education yesterday had two complaints, one from Ruawai and one from Waiotira, both up North. In the course of the discussion it was stated that the teachers wanted summer time;- in fact, had started it, but the committees, backed by the parents, wanted winter time observed. Mr. E. C. Banks thought the board should consider the children and the parents, and not the teachers, who only had six hours or so to work. Mr. A. Burns (chairman) pointed out that it was the wish of the board that an honest attempt should be made to carry out summer time. It was decided to inform the committees that the board wished summer time to be observed, but if any special circumstances arose the board would be willing to consider them.
