It was decided to communicate -with others chambers in the area"'betweenMprrinsville and Opotiki, with' a view to ~seeking support for the new service.

'■■■ ' A very successful social In aid of' the Roman Catholic church building fund was •held' in the Town Hall on Tuesday iiight. Excellent music was supplied by Miss O'Sullivan, Miss Morris, Messrs. McGrucr, Griffiths and Prendergast. The non-dancers were well catered for by a euchre tournament. Prize-winners were :■*—Ladies, Mrs. Eyre; gents, Mr. D. Zimmerman.

A meeting of the Opotiki : Women's Institute was held, on Friday evening, Mrs. Absolom presiding.. After the report of the delegates to the federation had been read, Mr. Arrowsmltli gave a talk on "The Island of Trinidad." The demonstrators, Mrs. Fox, Mrs. Scott, and Miss Marie Howden. each had an interested group round them when they showed different •styles of necklet inakingv Miss White gave two comic recitations, which caused much laughter. Mrs. Scott was responsible for the competition,, which .was won. by.. MissLaura Bennett. The hostesses were Mesdames Kirkbride, McAlister, Shove, and G. Lambert.

At a meeting of the Chamber of Commerce on Tuesday evening, presided over by Mr. L. C. Mackie, the chairman reported the committee appointed to arrange a function in connection with/the commerce train had arranged to hold a smoke concert on the evening of the visit. The chairman stated the condition of the main: highway between Te Arp.ha and Tirohia had been brought before .his notice.. Although work was proceeding on •it the condition was very/unsatisfactory indeed. Mr. F. S. Board "considered ior a main highway the road right through to Paeroa was positively disgraceful. It should bo re-engineered and re-made throughout, for at times it was dangerous and impassable. He thought the attention of other, locn! bodies interested should be directed to the matter, which was very serious indeed. It was decided to correspond with the A.A.A., Auckland, and other bodies on the subject. The omission of Te Aroha from tho list of -trains, advertised by fthe Kailway Department was commented upon, and it was decided to write to the authorities on the subject. The pipe band now has a membership of 22. and an order has been placed for 10 sets of 'Kobe'rtson's pipes. These will arrive just before Christmas. A Boy Scout,:troop has just been formed here, 23 boys' being enrolled as members. The Rev. H.'B. Hughes has been appointed scoutmaster, having accepted the position for the meantime.
