CORRESPONDENCE.
INDUSTRIES AT NEW LYNN. I was pleased to see "For the Workers'" letter in your last night's issue,,and heartily endorse what he says. There is no doubt that industry should be encouraged and not harassed. There is far too much restriction on trade in these days, and just because an indi--1 vidual adjacent to the proposed site thinks his property may suffer (and, mind you, this is only supposition), he immediately squeuls. I am quite close to the area in question, and can see no harm in the establishment of a pottery. One cannot look for beauty always, and many houses are "as ugly as sin." They talk about tho "gateway" to New Lynn. Well, what about the "gateway" to our own city on the Great South Road ? Can anyone say that the manure and chemical factories, soap works, etc., are aesthetic, or that the odours therefrom are enjoyable? Yet we never hear any complaint about them. Certainly a pottery would be heaven compared with them. LIVE AND LET LIVE.
